Finished on Friday!

This afternoon while my daughter took her nap I bound off the i-cord ties and wove in all the ends and it's done! This is my Cranberry. The pattern is Saffron by Elena Nodel and it's so cute. I just had to get her to try it on as soon as she woke up from her nap. Sorry about the sleepy and slightly grumpy looks in the pictures. I think the gems (they are kind of like M&Ms) really helped!

The pattern was fairly easy. I've not made too many knitted garment before but even so I think it turned out great.  When I started I was iffy on the amount of yarn I was going to need for it. Here in India the yarn is not labeled very well so you never really know how many yards/Meters are in a ball.  I had 2 balls of blue I was thinking to use at that time but was not sure it would be enough so I bought this red yarn. Turns out I finished the last yard of the 2nd ball on the i-cord ties so I could have used the blue after-all. Oh well! I think the other 2 balls of red are going to get returned unless think of some perfect project soon..

Did you finish a project this week?

Wednesday Work in Progress.

After receiving a lovely package from my mom which contained some circs. I was so excited to cast on this project. I had searched all out for circs. but they are not so easy to find here. I think it's horribly ironic that my mom sent me Susan Bates needles that are made here in India by an Indian company. I am hopeful that in the future we will be able to get more needles here locally but in the mean time I am thankful for my mom's willingness to buy them for me and send them my way so that I can make a project!

I've had a number of projects that I've started and not finished which is very unlike me but hopefully this one will break the UFO streak!  I've cast on Saffron by Elena Nodel. This lovely pattern was RAKed to me by Orangie on Ravelry! Thank you once again so much! I love the RAK group on Ravelry. It's so encouraging to see how people reach out and share kindness and love with other knitting enthusiasts. I feel so blessed to have received a few patterns from total strangers!

I'm using Wendy Knit Shine again because it's so lovely to knit.  It was hard to choose a color. I wanted to knit it in a blue but wasn't sure I'd have enough yarn so I went to the store and bought this lovely shade of red. It's a really rich red color which I think will look wonderful on Anaiah. I have not had that much time to work on it, I think I'm about 5-6 rows away from separating for the sleeves.

Happy Knitting/crocheting everyone! What are you working on this week?

Happy Valentine's Day

Ok, so I know it's a day late but I just didn't have the chance to post yesterday. I was too busy enjoying time with my little lady and decorating cakes!

My husband was gone on a business trip so it was just Anaiah and I most of the day. I went to her school early so that we could pass out Valentines to her class mates. I have made little heart shaped cards with lollipops attached to them. Before going home Anaiah passed out roses to all of the teachers. She kept saying "Happy Birthday" instead of "Happy Valentine's Day" which I thought was kinda cute really. I think her teachers really appreciated the flowers and special attention.

After school I took Anaiah to her favorite playground at the mall and then we shared a cheese pizza. It was our little Valentine's mommy-daughter date and I could not have asked for a nicer time.

While she took a nap I finished up a cake for my sister in law and I to enjoy in the evening. I had hoped to make a vegetarian rolled fondant but after reading the recipe again I found that it needed to rest 8 hours before rolling out and I just didn't have the time so I made a raspberry buttercream frosting instead.

I had already finished Anaiah's special dolly cake the night before. It's my first doll cake and the scale of the dolly made some of it kinda tricky. I just used a tiny barbie mermaid doll that we got from a happy meal at one point because that was the only dolly we had in the house. It's covered in a thin layer of vanilla buttercream  and then in marshmellow fondant.

I used some of the cutter I bought at INA plus some that grandma sent. My favorite bit is the edible glitter on the ruffles. It looks awesome!

happy girl!

Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
